31 Holiday Dance Class Ideas

‘Tis the season! (The season for exhausted dance teachers to get scrappy, looking for games, activities and general entertainment for dancers who are either also exhausted or way too hyped up on holiday sugar.)

I’ve been there, and I’ve got your back!

Today I’m sharing 31 (yep, 31!) holiday dance ideas for your classes during the month of December! You can even take these into that slow season after the new year, when we’re all a little holiday hungover and easing back into routines and habits.

These 31 ideas come in the form of my Affirmation Advent Calendar, which is just like the typical advent calendars, except I’ve replaced chocolate with positive mantras and affirmations to lift your students’ spirits and keep them motivated and inspired as the year winds down.

Now, you might be thinking ‘but Katrena, affirmations aren’t activities, or games I can use with my dancers!’ To which I say - oh contraire!

Here’s three ways I’ve used these affirmations in my classes to both boost my class vibe, and eat some extra time (because, let’s be honest, sometimes we just need to sit on the floor with the dancers and not teach for 5 minutes):

  • Write out all of the affirmations and put them in a basket for students to pick up before or after class. They can keep theirs nearby to look at when they need a boost.

  • Combine an affirmation (or two or three) with a yoga sequence, barre exercise, or across the floor routine. Dancers can recite them (aloud or silently) as they move.

  • Turn the affirmations into art! Dancers can write out the affirmations on a piece of paper, decorate it, and give it to a friend or family member! Older dancers can use blank note cards, and write thank you letters to family or friends and tell them why that particular affirmation made them think of that person.

Looking for more feel good ideas for how to incorporate these affirmations into your classes?

Get your own copy of my Affirmation Advent Calendar HERE! This one pairs well with my Gratitude Challenge too, which gives you both 20 and 28 days of prompts to create mindfulness and gratitude, inside and outside of the studio!

Use them this month, or start 2021 off on a positive foot and plan on using them in January!

Happy Holidays, and happy affirming my friends!
