I imagine most of us are a few weeks into our fall seasons here in the U.S. and maybe things are starting to feel settled after the hustle, bustle and chaos of back to school. I know this year has continued to throw challenges at us right and left, and ‘normal’ still feels a long way off.

But despite all the challenges, us dance teachers continue to adapt, to show up, and make it work.

Which is exactly what made me create this Body Kind Manifesto for Dance Teachers. It’s all the things I want to keep myself mindful and aware of as we head back to the studio and continue to face challenges while attempting to make the best of a really tough and hard reality. It’s the permission slips I need to write myself and the encouragement I want to hear - on the good days, and the bad ones.

I made it for myself, but with you in mind too; because we’re in this together, and supporting one another is definitely the only way we’ll continue to navigate the rough and choppy waters of 2021. It’s my gift to you, and I hope you’ll save it, print it, and share it with others so we can stay committed to what really matters: kindness, to ourselves, to others, and to the world.

If you’d like to learn more about Body Kindness, give me a follow on Instagram! I talk a lot over there about Body Kindness, and how we can apply it to dance, and dance education.

We can do hard things, teachers. It’s ok to have hard days, and it’s ok to be tired. Give yourself some grace, know you’re not in this alone, and do what you need to do to take care of yourself.

Deep breaths. You’ve got this!
