The Reality No One Is Admitting About Coronavirus

I’m going to go ahead and admit this, because even though not many people may be talking about this reality, I know I’m not the only one who felt it.

I was glad when the virus hit.

Hold your horses, and allow me to explain before you go all shocked and hit me with the ‘how could you?’s…

I was glad for a chance to slow down. I was relieved at the opportunity to rest, stay home, and take care of myself in a way I haven’t been able to for years.

Dance studios and coronavirus

Now, I quickly realized the effects of this virus, and I am still very aware and sensitive of them. I know this experience has been devastating to so many, on so many different levels, and my heart goes out to all the individuals, families, small businesses and communities that corona has had a ripple effect on. The scale of these losses is not lost on me, and I am in no way making light of the devastation.

What I am pointing out, is that corona also poked at a collective longing the world has to slow the ‘eff down.

This is the reset we’ve all been craving.

Pre-shelter in place orders, I admitted to a friend that I would welcome the chance to work from home for a couple of weeks, take some naps, go for some walks, enjoy cooking and baking my own food again.

Those aren’t outrageous or outlandish wishes for myself. They’re actually pretty basic. And these wishes just go to show how run down we are, how hard we’ve been running the hamster wheel of life.

This coronavirus experience shows that our lives have seriously lacked the time, space, and care we so desperately need to feel whole. And, that when we do have that time space, and care (even if it’s forced on us by a quarantine), it’s possible to come back to life, feel more like ourselves… heck, maybe even feel better than we have in years!

That is one reality of this season of coronavirus, and if we accept that, then it begs another question:

Why put off prioritizing ourselves any longer?

Is there something you want to do now more than you’ve ever wanted to do it before? (DO IT.)

Did you love working less? (WORK LESS.)

Was it amazing to spend more time in the kitchen, or outdoors, or with your family? (MAKE TIME FOR IT.)
