The #1 Quality You Need As A Dance Teacher

qualities+every+dance+teacher+needs

Dance teachers and studio owners literally do it all.

Teach class. Choreograph. Costumes. Social Media. Hire. Fire. Manage.

Just to name a few.

I’ve been teaching for over 20 years, so I know. I get it and I feel the weight of all those hats you wear.

But to be honest, there’s only 1 quality I’ve found is really necessary to a successful career as a dance teacher. And it doesn’t have to do with your social media savvy, or how well you manage parents or staff.

The #1 quality you need as a dance teacher is curiosity.

Yep.

That certain je ne sais quoi of the mind that makes you stop and go ‘Huh. That didn’t work well. I wonder why?’ Or, ‘Wow! That was amazing! How can I make it better next time?’

That curiosity mindset is the key to keeping dance doldrums at bay. (I talk more about how to keep things from getting stale in your dance business in this post.) Being able to look at a piece of choreography, a student, or a situation with curiosity is an invitation to see possibility, rather than problems.

If it’s been awhile since you felt curious about your business, there’s no shame in that game. Like I just said, we wear a lot of hats, and dance teacher life can be overwhelming AF. But if you’re ready to get curious again, and want to see your teaching, dancers, and studio with fresh eyes, you should check out the Dance Studio BodyPosi Challenge.

Why body positivity? Well, dancers will only continue to take class and perform when they feel good about themselves and their abilities, and my Challenge teaches you exactly how to do that. Plus, aren’t you curious about learning more on a subject that can positively affect not only your students, but you?

We start next week, so the time to act is NOW! Join the ranks of your fellow curious, savvy and smart dance educators in the Dance Studio BodyPosi Challenge! I can’t wait to see you there!
