My Biggest 'What If' About 2020

This year has made us think a lot in terms of ‘what if’.

What if corona had never happened?

What if we never shut down?

What if I’d come up with a plan for virtual classes sooner?

What if I’d been more organized?

What if I’d done more/acted faster/known more…

What if life stays like this forever?

Thinking about the ‘what ifs’ is part of being human, and Lord knows I’ve had my share of going down a what if black hole…

BUT.

I recently challenged myself to flip the script on my what ifs, and when I did, I came up with a beautiful thought:

What if all the people who are here on earth right now, all the dance teachers and small business owners and inspiring leaders, and all our students, what if we were all meant to be here, right now, to experience this, because we have what it takes to come out on the other side stronger, kinder, and braver.

What if everything we’re experiencing is meant for us, because we’re the ones that are meant to shape the future?

What if you’re the perfect person to be doing what you’re doing, and you’re doing it exactly the way you’re supposed to be?

I know this year hasn’t been easy, but I also know that you are a badass. You’re making things happen. You’re making changes and showing up with a big, beautiful open heart, and that inspires me and gives me so much hope for any future what ifs.

What ifs tend to take our power away, but what if you took it back?

What if you recognized that you are your own walking testimonial for how smart, capable, and brave you are?

Please, dance teachers, studio owners, and dancers - recognize all you’ve done this year, give yourself credit for all the challenges you’ve overcome and all the ways you’ve adapted, stayed kind, loving and stood back up, even when you were knocked down. That example that you’re setting, and showing your dancers, will stay with them for the rest of their lives, and you should feel really really good about that.

You are a force to be reckoned with, and the what ifs of your future are boundless and beautiful.
